SteelSeries clearly designed this keyboard with LAN events in mind. Aside from being able to load up your favorite tech website's logo as a splash screen, it's possible to use this display and the accompanying wheel to alter a whole host of settings, including lighting and actuation. But wait, before you roll your eyes at the fact a keyboard houses a pointless display, know that this one actually has some use. On the top-right of the Apex Pro, there's a small OLED display. Unfortunately, the cable is not detachable, but it's thick, and the built-in USB passthrough makes up for this minor complaint. The gaming preset optimizes sensitivity, so your games feel responsive, while the typing preset is a bit longer to help you avoid registering accidental clicks. Because of these switches, you can select the actuation point from one of two presets: 1.0mm for gaming and 1.5mm for typing. Rather than the magnetic OmniPoint switches found in the Apex Pro editions, or the standard mechanical switches found in the SteelSeries Apex 7 TKL, these OptiPoint switches are optical switches that use lasers to register a keypress. The main difference between this unit and the others in this lineup is the use of proprietary OptiPoint switches. The SteelSeries Apex 9 continues the SteelSeries Apex lineup of gaming keyboards.
