![]() Such a design could easily have been an alternate design for the Ise class, and arguably would have been a better use for it, as if Ise and Hygua were of this design, they, if they actually had functioning aircraft and pilots, could have provided a CAP for Center force in the Battle of Leyte, allowing Musashi to actually remain intact long enough to participate in the battle. While some people argue that you're better off with seperate ships for seperate purposes, with ships specially built to be either Carriers or Battleships, the fact is that the class could easily have seen further development in the time period, than what occured historically with designs far better optimized, and utilizing available resources far better than the Ise class conversions did for example, given the limited ship building capacity, one could have seen partial conversions dedicated strictly to providing an integrated CAP to a battleship division, meaning that hullspace and magazine space would only have to be alloted for aviation fuel and machinegun/cannon ammunition, instead of the extensive areas needed for the armored storage of both bombs and torpedos areas that would decrease the storage of maingun magainze ammunition. ![]() With the, apparently, soon to be inclusion of submarines in the game, I thought it might be fruitful and interesting to turn forum attention to another class of ship, currently undergoing testing, in the form of the renovated Ise class namely the aircraft carrier battleship hybrids commonly known as "Battlecarriers", restricted to the Ise class during the war, but seeing later development in the Cold War as the Kiev CV/Missle cruiser hybrids.
